The author of this blog is Mike DiPrisco, and here's some information about him (and it) in his own words:
"This blog is basically my attempt to document my Quest to see every film nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. That's over 1,430 separate films (as explained here, in the Full Extent article). I know. I'm an overachiever.
I have a certain fascination with the Academy Awards. There's something interesting to me about how complex our feelings toward it are. How meaningless they are, and yet, at the same time, how much of a gold standard they are. And yet, despite us knowing that they're meaningless, we still manage to have strong opinions about them nonetheless. I love that.
The Quest was mostly about me wanting to see more movies, but also feed my fascination with this whole Academy Award institution. The idea for the blog came a few months into the Quest, when I said, 'What's the point of watching all these movies if there's no way for anyone to know about it?' So I figured I'd at least record it for posterity. Empirical proof of, 'Yes, I did this.' Plus, I've got a lot of friends (not to boast or anything. Let me brush my shoulders off a little bit first) who come to me and say, 'Mike, what movies should I watch?' Which, is a loaded question. How could I possibly answer something that vague? So, by creating this blog, I was able to kill several birds with one stone (I really don't like birds). I could record my Oscar Quest, I could point people to the blog whenever they asked me what they should watch ('Well, here's a giant list of films and what I think about them. Go play.'), plus I'd also be able to look back at it myself and be like, 'What was that film again? What did I think about it?' It really was the smart thing to do. Plus it gave me another outlet to just write stuff. And I'm always looking for ways to create output. And after the blog, it was like, 'That's good. One less thing.'
So that's why this exists. It's basically me documenting my viewing of many, many films. And some other fun stuff too."
